Zura beret Laulhère

Description

The Laulhère workshops have stood on their original site since 1840, at the foot of the Béarn Pyrenees, near the waters of the Gave d’Oloron. The making of the authentic Laulhère beret rests on a tradition and expertise built up over more than 180 years.

The beret is a French emblem, worn through its history by all sorts of public figures: actors, athletes, musicians and writers. It travelled internationally in part through sailors and explorers setting out from the Basque Country.

Across the twentieth century the way the beret was worn changed: from farm worker to factory worker, from figures of Parisian street culture (the titi) to the jazz scene of the Quartier Latin, and from early film stars to political figures and well-known singers. Drawing all these histories together, the Laulhère beret carries a broad heritage that anyone can take up as a means of personal expression.
