Description
The Beaufort® Waxed Jacket, one of Barbour’s most recognisable waxed jackets, was introduced in 1983. It was designed by chairman Dame Margaret Barbour and is known for its practical full-width lined pocket across the back. That single feature makes the jacket unusually useful. With its timeless cut and durability, the Beaufort Jacket is as welcome in town as it is in the country.
Barbour Beaufort® Waxed Jacket
The Beaufort Waxed Jacket, designed in 1983 by chairman Dame Margaret Barbour, remains one of Barbour’s most recognisable jackets. It draws on French hunting jackets and is cut shorter than the traditional Barbour models.
The Beaufort is made from a mid-weight 6oz Thornproof waxed cotton and has a relaxed fit. Its hallmarks are the corduroy collar with press studs, adjustable storm cuffs with hook-and-loop fastening, and the sturdy two-way zip with Barbour ring-pull. There are two roomy bellows pockets and two moleskin-lined handwarmer pockets at waist height.
One distinctive and practical detail is the large rear pocket with a wipe-clean nylon lining, useful for carrying things. The jacket is interactive, meaning a separate hood and liner can be added, which makes the Beaufort a jacket for the whole year.
Where older Beaufort jackets carried a Dress Gordon check, the modern lining is the classic Barbour tartan. That pattern is based on the check from Ayrshire, where the Barbour family originally lived.
